I’m thrilled to introduce young nature stewards to the magic of vernal pools during a special virtual visit to the Rutland Public Library on Sunday, March 14!

Together with librarian Aislinn Lewis,  we’ll dive into my fun, rhyming picture book, The Noisy Puddle: A Vernal Pool Through the Seasons, explore how the book came to life, and do a fun art activity and maybe even get moving with a playful movement activity inspired by the creatures that call vernal pools home.

🐸 Who’s it for? Children ages 4+ and their families!
🎥 Where? Rutland Public Library (I’ll be joining virtually for this one)
💡 Why? To spark curiosity, joy, and a lifelong love for vernal pools!

A huge thank you to the Brian Bjorklund and the Rutland Conservation Commission for making this visit possible. The biggest thrill? Knowing that more children will learn about these magical, vital ecosystems—and maybe, just maybe, grow up to protect them.

🌀 Why Do Vernal Pools Matter?

These seasonal wetlands may

be small, but they play a huge role in keeping ecosystems healthy!

🐢 They help us too! Vernal pools filter water, reduce flooding, and support biodiversity.
🦎 Without them… Spotted salamanders would lose their breeding grounds, leading to more aquatic insects.
🐦 Birds like Eas

tern Bluebirds would struggle to find food.
🐸 Wood frogs would decline, causing insect populations (🦟) to soar.
