I’m excited to partner with Melissa Roberts – Program Director of Puddle Stompers and master nature educator — in this workshop for the 25th annual MASSACHUSETTS ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION SOCIETY.  Our talk:  Utilizing STEM-based Picture Books and MA-STEM Standards to Create Engaging, Hands-on Nature-based Curriculum for ages 4-8 and Adults

This workshop will demonstrate an integrated nature enrichment program designed to meet STEM, nature-based science curriculum standards for ages 4-8 while promoting systems thinking and critical thinking.  Content is designed for free library programs attended by young children and their families.

We’ll be exploring ways to engage both children and adults to learn about a specific habitat, its natural history, and its importance in our global ecosystem. The program can also be adapted for K-5 classroom use.  THE NOISY PUDDLE: A VERNAL POOL THROUGH THE SEASONS will be used during this workshop in addition to hands-on nature materials, active movement, and STEM-based mini experiments that are designed for children in preschool through early elementary school.  This workshop is designed to offer a template of enrichment programming that allows access to natural world and nature-based programming for families who otherwise would not have an opportunity to participate in such for-profit programs.
